Repair of the pediments

The pediments, which are the triangular parts of the entablature, were damaged, missing ornaments, and peeling paint, exposing the bare metal underneath. The historic decorative elements are being cleaned, repaired, and reinstalled.

Here you can see where some of the decorative ornaments have fallen off. These pieces will be restored.

The removal of the decorative piece resembling a shield allows a glimpse into the attic where new ductwork has been installed.

In October 2016, a metal pediment was removed from the Capitol. The pediments on the north and south elevations are decorated with floral patterns, like the one in this photo, while circular motifs adorn the pediments on the east and west elevations.
