The existing elevators, too small for a gurney and often breaking down, will be replaced with larger versions and relocated out of the historic monumental corridors to improve egress from the building and restore the historic spaces.

In the east wing of the garden level, a new elevator shaft is being built.

Looking up the elevator shaft, there is a view all the way into the attic.
