Investigation work at Capitol continues

The investigation work continues at the Capitol to preserve our state's historic treasure and will continue through July. The purpose of this work is to get a better sense of the structure and historic finishes that have been covered up over the years. This will be coordinated and appropriately scheduled with office occupants and the appropriate agencies. All areas will be open during business hours.

PROTECTING WOOD PANELING

In these photos, workers have carefully removed this section of wood paneling so we could see what is underneath. The majority of historical documents for the Capitol do not show what is behind the walls, ceilings and floors. This particular removal shows what is behind the woodwork and helps us obtain a better understanding of how to bring in electrical systems during the renovation without damaging wood.

DISCOVERY OF HISTORIC PAINT

In other parts of the Capitol, work has uncovered examples of historic paint.
